Why music?
Music education is so much more than the pure joy that comes from learning to play a few tunes and connecting with other musicians. Playing an instrument is one of the only activities that activates, stimulates and uses the entire brain.
BRAINS!
Music instruction speeds up maturation of the auditory pathway in the brain and increases its efficiency.
music is physical education
Requiring the coordination of eyes & fingers, & control of the back & stomach, regular practice on an instrument with the correct posture can help build the body’s core strength.
music is reading
…and a universal language! Reading music requires the same subsets of skills that help maintain literacy.
MUSIC IS MATH & SCIENCE
Music is rhythm, based on the division of time into fractions. Music is about accoustics & frequencies produced by voices and instruments.
OUR HISTORY
How the dream of making music a way of life became a reality.
From humble beginnings, Time on the String has built a solid reputation for music education in our community over the years.
Testimonials
Don’t take our word for it – hear what our student families have to say:
We are so thankful we found Time on the String. Josh and Jake are not only very talented, but are amazing teachers. They are so patient and make learning a new instrument fun and easy. When it was time to upgrade my son to a full size cello, Josh walked us through the process and helped us find the perfect one. We will be forever grateful for the instruction and guidance provided by Time on the String, which has filled our home with beautiful music”

We are so proud of Elijah for getting up to perform with the other students this weekend at the Lowertown Art & Music Festival. We appreciate the kindness and accommodating spirit of the instructors Elijah has had at Time on the String. I would encourage any caregiver to look into music lessons regardless of what you think the end game may be if your child likes music. Music is fantastic for brain elasticity and building self worth”

I would like to take a moment to thank the good folks at Time on the String for taking Elliot under their wing and encouraging her musical growth. I can honestly say that working with them has been the highlight of the last year and a half with our little family. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more knowlegeable & dedicated staff. I encourage you to look them up if you’ve ever considered learning to play an instrument”
